The Spring 2021 Team Trudeau Fellowship Program is a grassroots Liberal volunteer leadership initiative that empowers and provides Fellows with the training, mentorship, and skills they need to lead Days of Action and train other volunteers on the way to the next campaign, whenever it arrives.

The Fellowship Program pairs volunteer Fellows with a Liberal Party of Canada Field Organizer in their riding, to mentor them on grassroots community organizing, digital organizing, and how to support strong and successful election campaigns across the country.

This community leadership program is for volunteers from all backgrounds and who are at least 14 years old. The fellowship program is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming campaign environment for all regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age or mental or physical disability. Fellows will learn and follow our digital code of conduct so that everyone participating in our democracy feels welcomed, included, and free from harassment.

Fellows have two options to complete the program

Option 1: Ten week training from May 19th to July 21st. Fellows will complete weekly trainings and volunteer opportunities over the course of ten weeks. Fellows will meet with their teams on Wednesday evenings and complete other responsibilities throughout the week.

Option 2: Weekend Virtual Bootcamp on May 15th. Fellows will complete a one day virtual bootcamp to learn the key skills to become a volunteer leader in their community. The training will take place from 12pm-6pm EST on May 15th.

All of the volunteering will be done virtually from the comfort and safety of your home! In addition to these volunteer activities, they will take part in innovative online training, hear from special guest speakers, and participate in national webinars. If you are a volunteer who is ready to help build a better Canada and take on a leadership role in your community, this program is for you!

“Through the Fellowship Program, I have gained useful knowledge through practical experiences with the amazing Field Organizers at LPC(O). I encourage anyone that desires to be more politically engaged to sign up, volunteer, and join the Liberal family today!” Karel Peters

“The Fellowship Program gives you valuable experience while also providing a field organizer to mentor you for the duration of the program. Many of us are aspiring to be policy makers and politicians but it all starts with getting out there and defending what you believe in.” Hamid Mohamed

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Should I become a Team Trudeau Fellow?

If you support the Liberal Party of Canada and our work together to keep Canada moving forward, and if you are a volunteer who is ready to take on a leadership role in your community, this program is for you!

Our Fellowship Program is an excellent opportunity to grow as a leader and learn valuable skills in community organizing. Fellows help connect people in communities across Canada who share our commitment to bold action on health, the economy, the environment, and equality. As a Fellow, you will be paired with a Field Organizer who will act as your mentor and guide you through this experience. Most importantly, it’s a fun way to make new friends and build relationships as we work towards earning Justin Trudeau and the Liberal team another mandate from Canadians to keep building a better, stronger, and more resilient Canada.

  • Once I apply to become a Fellow, what’s next?

After you submit your application and officially register as a Liberal, you will hear from a Field Organizer who will reach out to discuss what brought you to the Liberal Party, why you’re interested in becoming a Fellow, and share the next steps!

Over the course of 10 weeks, Fellows will take online training, and learn all the skills they need to lead Days of Action and help grow our movement all across the country. Training will also include one-on-one conversations with your Field Organizer and mentor. Fellows will participate in a weekly national training featuring special guest speakers, the latest campaign skills, and opportunities to connect with members of our team across the country.

  • What is the difference between the weekend virtual bootcamp and 10 week fellowship?

We are introducing a new option to become a Team Trudeau fellow to make the program more accessible to volunteers who cannot make a 10 week time commitment.

Both training programs will include interactive webinars, opportunities to build and practice campaign skills, as well as connect with people across the country. The weekend fellowship will take place from 12pm-6pm EST on May 15th.

Trainings for the ten week fellowship will take place on Wednesday evenings from May 19th to July 21st. Other activities and volunteer opportunities can be completed by fellows at their convenience throughout the week.

  • What do Fellows do after training?

Throughout the training, and afterwards, Fellows become grassroots organizing leaders, and help grow our movement in every part of Canada with innovative digital organizing. Once you are ready, you will lead local phone banking campaigns from home (and hopefully one day soon lead our efforts in-person, when/where public health guidance allows!) while playing an important role in our next campaign.

  • How big of a commitment is the Fellowship program?

On a typical week, you will spend up to 5 hours training and building your skills. This includes a national webinar, self guided training resources, and skill building activities that you work on with fellows in your region. Activities include getting to know your riding, writing your personal story, running a virtual community event, or leading your team’s Virtual Weekend of Action.

Fellows will be asked to reach out to supporters in their community, help build local teams of supporters, and introduce new volunteers to our training. Fellows will play a crucial role in election readiness and team building across the country, as we work together to build a Canada that is healthier and safer, cleaner and more competitive, and more inclusive for everyone.

  • What is a Field Organizer, and how do they work with the Fellows?

Field Organizers are the staff with the Liberal Party of Canada who work on the ground in communities across Canada helping connect and train local volunteers, building relationships, and facilitating our outreach for multiple ridings. They are experienced community organizers who will share their knowledge and skills with Fellows, helping to guide them through the program and become strong community leaders.

  • What if I don’t have the time, and don’t feel ready to be a Fellow?

Don’t worry! People of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience are welcome to join the Liberal Party of Canada as volunteers at whatever pace works for them. We appreciate your support!
