Mulcair still misleading Canadians about NDP’s minimum wage mirage
SURREY, BC – Thomas Mulcair is still misleading Canadians about the NDP’s $15 a day minimum wage mirage, even though a senior Canadian economist says Mulcair’s claims are fiction.

Economist Mike Moffatt
“…the numbers behind the NDP’s minimum wage plan don’t add up.”
“The specific NDP claim that 100,000 workers will directly see a raise is not supportable by the evidence…”
“I get an estimate of 33,065 workers covered by the $15 minimum wage proposal, less than one-third of the 100,000-worker claim.”
(Mike Moffatt, Maclean’s, August 17, 2015)
Mulcair’s minimum wage mirage
“…our proposal to bring in a $15 an hour federal minimum wage, a living wage that will help over 130,000 Canadians.”
(Thomas Mulcair, August 18, 2015)
“Over 100,000 Canadians will get a raise.”
(Thomas Mulcair, August 6, 2015)
“Tom Mulcair’s plan will help 100,000 Canadians to get ahead.”
(Mulcair spokesperson, August 14, 2015)

“Even though it’s clear his minimum wage claims are false, Thomas Mulcair still won’t own up to it. He won’t admit that fewer than one percent of all Canadian workers would be impacted despite NDP claims,” said Liberal candidate for Surrey—Newton, Sukh Dhaliwal.
Mr. Dhaliwal noted that Mulcair only recently came up with the 100,000 figure after he was criticized for pretending the plan would apply broadly.
“It’s just one of many examples where the NDP isn’t giving middle class families the straight facts. It’s a pattern with Thomas Mulcair where he says one thing, but the facts say another,” said Mr. Dhaliwal. “Justin Trudeau is the only candidate for Prime Minister with a plan for real change to grow the economy, help the middle class, and bring back fairness.”
