Statement by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau on the Resignation of Bob Rae
June 19, 2013
OTTAWA– Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made the following statement today on the announcement that Bob Rae will be stepping down as Liberal MP for Toronto Centre:
“Bob Rae’s contribution to the Liberal Party and to Canada cannot be overstated. He is one of this country’s great public figures, whose intellect, wit and powerful oratory will leave an indelible mark on Canadian politics.
At a critical moment in our Party’s history, Bob stepped up to serve as Interim Leader with dedication and enthusiasm, assuming the immense responsibilities of rebuilding our Party.
As Liberal Foreign Affairs critic, he has brought a lifetime of invaluable experience to Parliament and continues to be a respected voice internationally on the most pressing global issues.
It is clear that though he steps away from Parliament in the coming days, he will continue to serve Canadians with great passion and distinction. I wish my dear friend Bob all the best in his next endeavours.
Liberal House Leader Dominic LeBlanc has agreed to assume the role of Foreign Affairs critic on an interim basis.”
