Week two sees Canadians embracing Liberal plan for real change
August 14, 2015
OTTAWA – As Liberals wrap up week two on the campaign trail, it is clear that Canadians in ridings across the country are responding to Justin Trudeau’s plan for real change.
Last Sunday, Mr. Trudeau held a rally in the nation’s capital, sharing the Liberal vision of a better government with hundreds of local supporters. On Monday, Mr. Trudeau visited Montreal with our strong team of local candidates, meeting with Canadians and delivering our message of real change and economic growth for the middle class.
On Tuesday, Mr. Trudeau officially launched his campaign office in his home riding of Papineau. He also announced the Liberal plan to restore trust in our democracy by ensuring open and transparent government for all Canadians. Mr. Trudeau outlined significant reforms to our democratic system, including the removal of partisanship and patronage in the Senate, and the creation of a merit-based appointment process. In addition, Liberals will ensure more free votes for Members of Parliament, make government information open by default, and eliminate fees associated with Access to Information requests.
On Wednesday, Mr. Trudeau was in Saskatchewan, speaking with Canadians about his plan for growth that works for everyone. He met with local leaders and First Nations in La Ronge and Meadow Lake after surveying the damage of recent wildfires.
Yesterday, he announced the Liberal plan to make important new investments in First Nations education and close the existing funding gap. This renewed partnership with First Nations will ensure high-quality education and economic opportunity, both of which are vital to our long-term economic growth.
We know that better is always possible. In the days to come, our Liberal team will continue to engage with Canadians on how we can make a real, positive difference together.
