Liberal plan offers real change for voters across the country
October 12, 2015
OTTAWA – Liberals are committed to giving Canadians a better government with a plan to grow the economy and strengthen the middle class, said the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today.
“Canadians of all stripes want what’s best for their country. Conservatives are our neighbours, our cousins, our parents. We don’t need to convince them to leave the Conservative Party. We need to show them how Stephen Harper’s party has left them,” said Mr. Trudeau. “This Prime Minister has played wedge politics for a decade, and divided Canadians over differences of religion and citizenship. Canada has accomplished great things, under Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments, for nearly 150 years. We’ve solved great problems, and fought tough fights. We’ve kept Canadians safe and healthy, created good jobs, built great cities, and been a beacon in the world. It’s time to lead ambitiously once again.”
The Liberal Party has a real, immediate plan to grow the middle class and make life better for all Canadians. A new Liberal government will introduce, as its very first Bill in Parliament, a tax cut for the middle class, so that Canadians see more money on their paycheques right away. We will also introduce the Canada Child Benefit – one bigger, fair, tax-free, automatic, monthly child benefit – in our very first budget. Nine out of ten Canadian families will be better off under our plan than under Stephen Harper’s. Liberals will ensure that middle class Canadians have more money in their pockets to save, invest, and grow the economy, because when they do, we all benefit.
“I’ve talked with conservatives across this country, and they keep telling me that they no longer see their values reflected in this government. It’s time for a change,” said Mr. Trudeau. “I believe government should invest in Canada to create jobs and grow the middle class. I believe that the environment and the economy go hand-in-hand. I believe in accountable, open government. I believe in a Canada that is an honest broker in the world. A Liberal government will have a plan to deliver the kind of real change that all Canadians can be proud of.”
