Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Black History Month
February 1, 2014
MONTRÉAL – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement on Black History Month:
“Black History Month is a time to highlight and celebrate the history and contributions that Black Canadians have made across our country.
“Canadians of African and Caribbean heritage have made an immeasurable impact on our country. The theme this year, ‘Proud of our History’, should serve as a calling for all Canadians to take the time to honour and celebrate the heritage of Black Canadians. In my riding of Papineau, we will be launching an educational arts exhibit that was put together by the local Afro-Caribbean community.
“We must also remember our obligation to continue building a country that affords equality and opportunity to all. I encourage all Canadians to take the time to learn more about the integral role and legacy of Black Canadians in building our free and democratic society, not only during Black History Month, but throughout the year.”
