Team Trudeau Nominations Process
This is an important moment to shape our future for the better — and Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada are the only team with a plan to deliver for Canadians, grow the middle class, make life more affordable, and build an economy that works for everyone.
Whenever the next campaign arrives, we’re ready to re-elect our dedicated Liberal team in Parliament, and continue to elect even more talented, diverse, and hardworking community leaders as new Liberal MPs to help keep Canada moving forward.
We are pleased to announce the details of our new nominations process, that will help achieve important new engagement with Canadians in every part of the country.
Our team of Liberal MPs will be nominated again provided they meet the criteria of incumbent candidates, including by:
- Having participated, since July 1, 2022, in at least 3 Voter Contact Days of Action events in their Electoral District.
- Having attempted at least 3,500 door knocks or 7,500 phone calls together with their volunteer team.
- Having in its EDA bank account funds amounting to at least 65% of the anticipated election expense limit for that Electoral District for the 45th General Election.
- Adding at least 40 additional Victory Fund donors, based on the number of Victory Fund donors present in the Electoral District as of July 1, 2022.
Currently-unheld EDAs will also meet important standards for community engagement before local Liberals may proceed to nominate a new candidate, including:
- Before any nomination meeting is called, the EDA must be able to document a thorough search for potential contestants from communities or backgrounds who are underrepresented in Parliament — including but not limited to candidates who are women; Black, Indigenous, or people of colour; LGBTQ2; people with disabilities; and marginalized communities.
- Having at least 100 Registered Liberals in EDAs where the Liberal candidate was the runner-up in 2021.
- Having at least 50 Registered Liberals in EDAs where the Liberal candidate was anything other than the runner-up in 2021, or where there was a margin greater than 20%.
