These general meetings for your local Liberal Electoral District Association (EDA) give us all an exciting chance to build up our local team for the year ahead. Table Officers and Directors will be chosen by you, and fellow Liberals in your area.
This is an exciting time to be involved in the Liberal Party of Canada, as we work together to support positive politics and Justin Trudeau’s plan to keep Canada moving forward.
Together, we’re continuing to build the most open and inclusive movement in Canadian politics – and building a better future for Canadians.

Procedures for Virtual General Meetings
Registration
- Attendees must register to attend the general meeting no later than 7 days prior to the meeting date in order to be able to access the meeting and to be eligible to vote. Registrants will receive an email containing the login details for the general meeting platform and the link to view the meeting sessions.
Voting
- Voting shall be conducted by online secret ballot. The vote will be administered by Simply Voting.
- A link to the ballot will be sent to eligible voters by email 2 hours after the start of the general meeting. It will come from the address vote@simplyvoting.com. Voters can vote virtually using a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone via the link received from Simply Voting. The link will take voters to a webpage with their personalized ballot.
- The language of the ballot can be changed by clicking the English or French buttons at the top of the page.
- The voting period will be open for 24 hours. The ballot must be completed by the individual who has registered to vote unless the voter requires assistance for accessibility reasons.
- When the Simply Voting page opens voters will see a short message at the top of the page that indicates the riding in which they are voting and for how long the voting window will be open.
- Voters must scroll down the page to see the positions for which they will be voting.
- To vote, voters make a selection for each position by clicking the white box to the left of their desired candidate’s name. If a candidate has been successfully selected the box will turn blue with a white check mark through it.
- Please note: Voters can only vote for one person per position, except for Director at Large, where they can select up to 6 candidates. If a voter tries to select more than 6 candidates, a warning message will appear. To change selections for Director at Large, voters can deselect at least one of their choices by clicking on the blue box with the white checkmark. It will turn white when it has been deselected, and they will then be able to select their preferred candidate.
- Once all the selections have been made, the voter must scroll to the bottom of the page and click the green Continue button. They will then be taken to a confirmation page that displays their choices.
- If they want to make any changes to their selections, they may do so by scrolling down the page, clicking the red Change button, and following steps 7 through 9 again.
- Once the voter has voted, Simply Voting will request that they confirm the vote they’re about to make. Voters must scroll to the bottom of the page and click the green Confirm button. Please note: no further changes can be made once the Confirm button has been clicked.
- Once they’ve confirmed and submitted their vote, Simply Voting will inform the voter that their ballot has been received. The voter will see a Success message at the top of the page, indicating that their vote has been recorded. They can see their voting receipt by scrolling down and clicking the blue View Receipt link, which will display their selections.
- The results of the election will be posted on the general meeting website for the local Liberal Electoral District Association (EDA) and emailed to everyone who submitted an intent to stand and Registered Liberals in the riding on the first business day after the close of voting.
Nominations from the floor
- In the context of a general meeting held virtually, a Registered Liberal may express their intention to stand for a vacant position at the direction of the Returning Officer during the general meeting. Vacant positions will then be filled as set out by the provisions of section 5.5 of the EDA By-Law.
Tie votes
- In the case of a tie between two candidates, the winner will be determined by the toss of a coin under the direction of the Returning Officer.
- In the case of a tie between more than two candidates, the winner will be determined by the drawing of lots under the direction of the Returning Officer.
- For greater certainty, in the case of a tie, the vote shall not be taken a second time.
