Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on the Supreme Court ruling
March 21, 2014
TORONTO – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today on the Supreme Court of Canada’s ruling striking down the Prime Minister’s judicial appointment, Marc Nadon:
“A Prime Minister has a responsibility to get the big things right. Supreme Court appointments are one of the most fundamental and important responsibilities of a Prime Minister, and this appointment and its rejection raise serious questions about Mr. Harper’s judgment.
“This is a new, precedent-setting decision, and not one that our country should ever have to face.
“It is imperative that the Prime Minister is seized with addressing the continued vacancy on our country’s highest court.”
