Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Vaisakhi
April 14, 2014
OTTAWA – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today on Vaisakhi:
“Today, hundreds of thousands of Canadians will join Sikhs around the world in celebrating Vaisakhi, the holiest celebration in the Sikh calendar.
“As Canadian Sikhs gather with friends and family to celebrate the creation of the Khalsa, all Canadians are given the opportunity to reflect on the valuable contributions of the Sikh community.
“Today, the Sikh community’s commitment to fairness, hard work, and equality has helped shape Canada into a country of which we are all immensely proud. This is further proof that Canada is strong not in spite of our differences, but because of them.
“I was very honoured to join the Sikh community in Vancouver this weekend to participate in the Vaisakhi parade and celebration.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I extend my best wishes to Canada’s Sikh community during the celebration of Vaisakhi.”
