Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on National Acadian Day
August 15, 2015
TORONTO – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on National Acadian Day:
“On National Acadian Day, Acadians across the country join with family and friends to celebrate their rich and storied heritage. I am thrilled to be joining in festivities later today in Caraquet.
“Acadian roots run deep in our country. Centuries before Confederation, it was the Acadians who built some of the first French settlements in what would later become Canada. Today, this vibrant community continues to make vital contributions to our national fabric, and it has preserved its distinct linguistic and cultural traditions along the way.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I encourage all Canadians to take this opportunity to learn more about the proud and lasting legacy of Acadians, and wish all those celebrating a day filled with immense joy and pride.”
