Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives will make deep cuts that hurt families
January 27, 2019
Ottawa, ON– The following is a statement from the Hon. Navdeep Bains, Liberal M.P. for Mississauga—Malton:
—
“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives will make deep cuts to services that Canadians rely on so they can give tax breaks to the wealthy. The only people whose lives would be more affordable under the Conservatives are the super-rich.
“Right wing populists like Andrew Scheer and Doug Ford say they’re for the people while campaigning, then cut taxes for the wealthy and services the middle class depends on as soon as they’re elected.
“He talks about affordability, but time and time again, Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives have voted against policies that help the middle class.
“They voted against giving more money to families with the Canada Child Benefit, against cutting taxes for the middle class, and against a stronger Canada Pension Plan.
“Prime Minister Trudeau has delivered real change that helps the middle class and those working hard to join it. We’ve introduced the Canada Child Benefit, which gives more money to 9 out of 10 Canadian families. We’ve cut taxes for the middle class while raising taxes on the wealthiest Canadians and we reached an agreement with the provinces to strengthen the Canada Pension Plan.
“The plan that we have been implementing over the last three years is working. Canada’s unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in over 40 years. More than 800,000 jobs have been created, giving more people the chance to get out of poverty, and start building a new life for themselves.
“We will keep fighting for Canadian families and for a better future for all Canadians.”
