Liberal Statement on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3, 2013
OTTAWA– The Liberal Employment, Social Development, and Labour Critic, Rodger Cuzner, issued the following statement today on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities:
“Today marks the 21st annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities, providing us with an opportunity to express our steadfast commitment to providing Canadians with disabilities the opportunity to live in an inclusive and accessible society.
“More than four million Canadians report having some form of disability, putting them at much greater risk of social and economic exclusion. While Canada was a founding signatory on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, this government has still failed to provide the accommodation and support detailed in this commitment.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I would like to reaffirm our commitment to fully implement the Convention in order to ensure the health, inclusion, and dignity of persons with disabilities in Canada and worldwide.”
