Liberals offering strong team and new ideas at Biennial Convention
February 21, 2014
MONTRÉAL – Thousands of Canadians are coming together today at the Liberal Biennial Convention to build the strong team and new ideas that will offer a real and fair chance for the middle class, said the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
“It is time for new leadership on the economy and growth for the middle class. Above all, it is time for new ideas, and that is what we will be offering Canadians this week at the Liberal Biennial Convention in Montréal,” said Mr. Trudeau. “We are building a team with Canadians, listening to their concerns and ideas, and proposing bold actions from those conversations. Liberals from across the country will be continuing the conversation this week as we build our plan with Canadians.”
Throughout the next four days, Liberals from coast to coast to coast will come together in Montréal, to debate policy resolutions, elect a new National Board, as well as vote on the policies that will guide the Liberal Party of Canada and the bold plan that will be offered to Canadians in 2015. Among the many resolutions that will be debated by delegates, are proposals targeting youth education and employment, investment in Canada’s infrastructure, and trade as a means for economic growth.
As part of building a team with Canadians for the 2015 election, Liberals will hear from many notable speakers at the Convention, including: former U.S. Treasury Secretary, Larry Summers; B.C. Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief, Jody Wilson-Raybould; Business Council of Manitoba President, Jim Carr; C. D. Howe Institute Executive Chairman, Bill Morneau; Lt. General Andrew Leslie (ret’d); the Mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi’s Chief of Staff, Chima Nkemdirim; as well as many others.
“Middle class families are looking for solutions, and this Convention is a vital step in defining and refining the plan that we are presenting to Canadians,” said Mr. Trudeau. “The energy among delegates is really incredible, and I am thrilled that so many Liberals will be helping to build our team and plan for Canadians.”
