Lisa Raitt confirms Conservatives would make drastic cuts, just like Harper and Ford
January 25, 2019
Ottawa, ON – The following is a statement from the Hon. Patty Hajdu, Liberal M.P. for Thunder Bay-Superior North:
“The Conservatives confirmed today they would follow Doug Ford and Stephen Harper’s lead by pushing for drastic cuts to services Canadians rely on.
“Lisa Raitt was specifically asked what the Conservatives would cut, and she pointed to Doug Ford’s Ontario and Stephen Harper’s record as a model to follow.
“The Conservatives are taking inspiration from Ford’s slashing of francophone services, children’s education, universities, and after-school programs. And the Harper government cut more than 25,000 public service jobs.
“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives need to make drastic cuts so they can cut taxes for their wealthy friends, just like Conservatives always do.
“Prime Minister Trudeau has delivered real change that helps the middle class and those working hard to join it. We’ve introduced the Canada Child Benefit, which gives more money to 9 out of 10 Canadian families. We’ve cut taxes for the middle class while raising taxes on the wealthiest Canadians and we reached an agreement with the provinces to strengthen the Canada Pension Plan.
“The plan that we have been implementing over the last three years is working. Canada’s unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in over 40 years. More than 800,000 jobs have been created, giving more people the chance to get out of poverty, and start building a new life for themselves.
“We will keep fighting for our families, for our communities, and for a better future for all Canadians.”
