Mulcair calls Harper’s cuts “good news for Canadians”
TORONTO – Thomas Mulcair is celebrating Stephen Harper’s deep cuts to the economy and the middle class, proving Justin Trudeau’s Liberals are the only party offering real change.
Asked yesterday about Harper’s phony surplus, generated by billions in stealth cuts, Mulcair enthusiastically declared: “Today’s numbers are good news for Canadians.”
“Federal departments left $8.7 billion unspent last year… Conservative Leader Stephen Harper Monday defended federal departments for holding on to billions of dollars last year. The unspent money was instead returned to the federal treasury, and played a huge role in the Conservative government posting a $1.9-billion budget surplus in the last fiscal year.” (Ottawa Citizen, September 14, 2015)
“Instead of supporting investment and growth, Thomas Mulcair is celebrating Harper’s cuts and embracing Conservative policies that have hurt families for a decade,” said Liberal candidate for Markham—Thornhill, John McCallum. “What exactly does Mulcair think is good news? Harper’s cuts to health care, his cuts to veterans? Mulcair thinks this is okay?”
“The Parliamentary Budget Officer confirmed Harper is already back in deficit this year. To eliminate that deficit at any cost just like Harper, Thomas Mulcair will make cuts and break his promises,” said Mr. McCallum. “Canadians have a clear choice in this election between the Liberal Party’s plan for smart investments that create jobs and growth, or Harper’s and Mulcair’s for more cuts that will slow down our economy even further.”
