Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on By-election Results

“Today, voters in Whitby—Oshawa and Yellowhead sent a clear message that the Liberal Party is the only progressive alternative to Stephen Harper’s Conservatives.

“Tonight’s results are a very positive reflection of Liberals’ hard work engaging with and listening to Canadians. Unlike the Conservatives’ unfair income splitting plan that benefits the wealthy, we are focused on building a better Canada for middle class families and all those who seek to join it.

“These significant gains further confirm that Canadians in Alberta and Ontario refuse to be taken for granted by Mr. Harper.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our outstanding Liberal candidates, Celina Caesar-Chavannes and Ryan Maguhn, for all of their hard work, as well as the tireless dedication of their campaign teams and volunteers. Liberals will continue building a strong team and plan for all Canadians as we approach 2015.”
