Statement by Liberal Party for Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Mohamed Fahmy
September 23, 2015
MONTREAL – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the pardon of Canadian journalist, Mohamed Fahmy:
“After months spent languishing in prison, we are very pleased to see progress in Mr. Fahmy’s case and welcome the news of his pending release.
“Since his unjust arrest, trial, and imprisonment, Canadians from across the country have been speaking out about Mr. Fahmy’s innocence, and have continuously advocated for his release. Today’s presidential pardon of Mr. Fahmy was a long time coming.
“Canadians need to know that their government will do everything in its power to ensure the release of Canadians unjustly imprisoned abroad. We trust Stephen Harper will use the full force of his office to assist in Mr. Fahmy’s release so that he can be reunited with his loved ones without any further delays.”
