Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Asian Heritage Month
May 5, 2014
TORONTO – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Asian Heritage Month:
“In May, Canadians join together in celebrating the start of Asian Heritage Month, a time when we reflect on the tremendous contributions of Asian-Canadians to our great country.
“In May of 2002, the Canadian government officially designated May as Asian Heritage Month. This month serves to recognize the important role that Asian communities have played in the development and continued prosperity of this country.
“Canada is a nation founded on multiculturalism, and today we proudly acknowledge the unique contributions of Asian-Canadians in enriching our vibrant society. We are a country that is stronger not in spite of our differences, but precisely because of them.
“I encourage everyone to use this occasion to learn about the significant contributions of Asian-Canadian communities throughout our shared history.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I offer my best wishes to all Canadians celebrating Asian Heritage Month.”
