Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas

“I extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas.

“Many families and friends marking this occasion decorate homes, light diyas, share meals, and exchange gifts. I am fortunate to have celebrated Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas with many Canadians, both in my riding of Papineau and in communities across Canada.

“The Festival of Lights reflects the triumph of good over evil and the power of light and higher knowledge to dispel ignorance.

“May we also use this time to recognize the rich cultural diversity that makes our country such a wonderful place to live and prosper.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I would like to wish all those celebrating a very happy Diwali and Bandhi Chhor Divas.”
