Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Diwali
November 1, 2013
TORONTO– The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, made the following statement today on the occasion of Diwali: “Sophie and I would like to extend our best wishes to all those who celebrate Diwali, both here in Canada and around the world. I have had the pleasure of celebrating Diwali with many Canadians, both in my riding of Papineau and in communities across Canada. I always marvel at the diyas lighting up the mandir and gurdwara, and I have enjoyed eating the delicious mithai served to me in many households. Today, some of the world’s great faiths will join together to celebrate this auspicious holiday, known to many as the festival of lights. This occasion is not only about marking the triumph of good over evil, but the power of light and higher knowledge to dispel ignorance. During this holiday, Canadians are also reminded of the importance of maintaining our shared values of inclusion, compassion, and hope for a better future. On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I wish you and your loved ones a very happy Diwali.”
