Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Greek Independence Day

OTTAWA – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today on Greek Independence Day:

“Today, Greeks across Canada and around the world will commemorate the anniversary of Greece’s independence, following the War of Independence that began in 1821.

“This is an opportunity for Greek-Canadians to celebrate their heritage and share their history. Our country is home to more than 250,000 Canadians of Greek descent, and for this we are all made stronger.

“Throughout our history, Greek-Canadians have contributed to the shaping of a strong, diverse, and prosperous Canada.

“I was particularly pleased to attend the Greek parade and other celebrations in Montreal this past Sunday.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, and from my family to yours, please accept my very best wishes on Greek Independence Day. Zito Hellas!”
