Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Imamat Day
July 11, 2013
OTTAWA– The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, made the following statement today on the occasion of Imamat Day:
“Today we come together and celebrate the 56th anniversary of the accession of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV to the Ismaili Imamat.
This is an occasion to show our sincere gratitude to His Highness for a lifetime of service and global leadership. As Imam of the Shi’a Ismaili Muslims, he has worked tirelessly to alleviate poverty, expand humanitarian aid, and support peace and pluralism in every corner of the globe. The Delegation of Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Museum stand as testaments to his commitment to peaceful co-existence and are hallmarks of pluralism in Canadian civil society.
Together, Canadians share a history of bringing people of differing beliefs together to find common ground. We embrace diversity through friendship, understanding and respect – a commitment that is shared and championed by His Highness. I am honoured to call him a friend and delighted to celebrate this important milestone with him.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I extend my best wishes to all Ismaili Muslims across Canada and around the world on this very special occasion. Khushiali Mubarak!”
