NDP can’t keep tabs on its own Swiss-cheese spending promises
September 30, 2015
IQALUIT – When the NDP released its faulty costing two full weeks ago on September 16th, New Democrats promised the “numbers will be updated weekly.”
But now that same “weekly” costing pledge has evaporated into thin air, just like so many other empty promises Thomas Mulcair has already backed away from – like health care and public transit funding.
Mulcair’s flawed costing had so many holes in it that former Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page likened it to Swiss-cheese. (Huffington Post, September 17, 2015)
The document’s lack of detail attracted so much criticism from economists and other experts that the NDP hastily issued a second document the next day.
Mulcair was ridiculed for using outdated projections and adopting Harper’s budget with all the cuts and broken promises that go with it.
That’s why the NDP will not follow through on its commitment to update its flawed costing.
The NDP will not update its numbers because they do not add up. If they did, it would show New Democrats are backing off even more promises they can’t possibly afford.
