Liberals to invest in Canadian families, grow the middle class
October 7, 2015
LONDON, ON – Liberals will invest now in hard-working families and grow the middle class, with a plan that will make 1.4 million of the 1.6 million families in Ontario with children under 18 better off than under Stephen Harper, said the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today.
“After a decade of failed Conservative policies, Liberals have a real plan to help Canadian families. Our government will introduce a new Canada Child Benefit to give families more money to help with the high cost of raising their kids. Our benefit is tax-free and tied to income, so it gives more support to those who need help most: single-parents and low-income families,” said Mr. Trudeau. “There are nearly 1.6 million families with children under 18 in Ontario; 1.4 million of those families will do better under our plan than Stephen Harper’s. We will deliver more money, each and every month, to help nine out of ten families with the costs of raising kids. That means more money for things like school supplies, sports equipment, clothes, books, and summer camp.”
This week, Liberals laid out our full platform for a better government. It is a concrete plan that will give Ontarians and all other Canadians more opportunities to succeed. In addition to our new Canada Child Benefit, Liberals will also cut taxes for the middle class, and put more money back in peoples’ pockets. We will make historic investments in public transit, affordable housing, child care, our roads, our bridges, and infrastructure we need to ready ourselves for a changing climate. Liberals will invest in the things Canadians need now – not a decade from now.
“Under Stephen Harper, we have seen ten years of weak economic growth. The Conservatives have had several chances to get it right for Canadians, but they have failed,” said Mr. Trudeau. “This is a great country, and it deserves a better government. The Liberal Party can and will provide that better government, and our plan is focused on making a real, immediate difference for Canadians. With our strong team and platform, we will give our youngest and most vulnerable a real and fair chance to succeed.”
