Statement by Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau on United Nations Day
October 24, 2015
OTTAWA – The Prime Minister-designate, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on United Nations Day:
“Today, Canada joins with countries around the world in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by the United Nations to international peace and security.
“Canada has always understood that being firmly committed internationally is important, not only to our own success, but also to the success of others around the world.
“This day also serves as an important reminder of the need for Canada to be an active and constructive member of the United Nations – not only for the help the UN provides to millions of people affected by conflicts and other humanitarian disasters, but also because it serves Canada’s interests: a more peaceful world is a safer and more prosperous world for Canada, too.
“We are a nation of diverse people – with roots in every corner of the world – living peacefully together, and as Canadians, we are committed to engaging in a positive way with the world, going forward.”
