November 16, 2017
Clarenville, NL – Liberals in Bonavista-Burin-Trinity have nominated Churence Rogers, an experienced community leader and Mayor of Centreville-Wareham-Trinity, as the official Team Trudeau candidate in the upcoming federal by-election.
“After an exciting nomination race and voting held across the riding this week, we are honoured to welcome Churence Rogers to Team Trudeau as the Liberal candidate in this important by-election,” said Anna Gainey, President of the Liberal Party of Canada. “Churence’s long record of public service demonstrates a deep commitment to supporting families in his community and throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and I know he will be a tireless champion for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity in Parliament.”
Churence has a proven track record of fighting for a stronger middle class, and for every family working hard to join it. Churence has served as Mayor of Centreville-Wareham-Trinity since 2009, and previously served as Mayor of Harbour Breton from 1997 to 2003.
From 2011 to 2015, Churence also served as President of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL). Under his leadership, MNL negotiated a new fiscal framework arrangement with the provincial government that invested millions of dollars annually into municipalities across Newfoundland and Labrador, helping to improve the lives of families throughout the province.
“It’s an honour to be nominated by Liberals in Bonavista-Burin-Trinity to serve as our candidate in this by-election, and I will work hard to earn the trust and support of every family in our riding,” said Rogers. “After 10 years of Stephen Harper left too many families falling behind, I’m looking forward to working with Justin Trudeau to continue creating good new middle class jobs right here in our communities – and to offer real help to the hard working families who need it most.”
