Liberal Statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day
April 5, 2013
TORONTO AND MONTREAL– Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on Holocaust Remembrance Day:
“On Yom HaShoah, Canadians join with the Jewish community in deep reflection on the atrocities and historic loss of life that occurred during the Holocaust.
In our remembrance of that incomprehensible suffering, we reject an evil that sought to extinguish an entire people. Our commitment to never forget or allow such atrocities again remains resolute.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those marking Yom HaShoah.”
Liberal Justice and Human Rights critic Irwin Cotler continued:
“The survivors of the Holocaust are the true heroes of humanity. They witnessed and endured the worst of inhumanity, but somehow found courage to go on in the depths of their own humanity, rebuilding their lives and building communities.
Together we remember and pledge that never again will we be indifferent to incitement and hate; never again will we be silent in the face of evil; never again will we indulge racism and anti-Semitism; never again will we ignore the plight of the vulnerable.”
