Liberal Statement on Remembrance Day
November 11, 2013
OTTAWA– The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, made the following statement today on Remembrance Day:
“Across the country, Canadians are acknowledging the great debt we owe to our men and women in uniform. In solemn remembrance and eternal gratitude, we come together to honour those veterans who sacrificed in defence of our country, and the values we share.
“We are fortunate to live in a country where people are able to raise their families knowing that their children will live free from violence, oppression, and injustice.
“We owe this to the men and women of the Canadian Forces, past and present. From Vimy, to Juno, to the Suez, to Kandahar, they have been steadfast in their commitment to the Canadian ideals of peace, freedom, and human rights.
“I am honoured to join Canadians in appreciation of those who have served, and those who continue to serve today.”
Liberal Veteran Affairs Critic, Jim Karygiannis, continued:
“While we honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our country, we must not forget the debt we owe to those who return home still carrying the burden of their service.
“When our country called on them, they answered dutifully and courageously. When they come home, it is our responsibility to ensure they can live with dignity. The Liberal Party of Canada remains wholly committed to ensuring the health and well-being of our veterans and their families.”
