RE: No more new bridges, roads, or arenas for your community
April 1, 2014
Today is the big day – and unfortunately it’s no April Fool’s Day joke.
As mentioned in Marc Garneau’s email below, today the Harper Government’s drastic cut to the Building Canada Fund – a cut of almost 90 percent – takes effect. This is an important issue that affects all Canadians so I wanted to follow-up with you.
Last week my caucus colleagues and I highlighted some of the pressing infrastructure needs in our communities.
Thanks to the more than 500 Canadians who shared their stories of crumbling infrastructure, I was able to talk about them during a press conference last week.
Whether it’s Victoria’s “Colwood Crawl”, Winnipeg’s potential state of emergency over frozen water pipes, or Northern Ontario’s dangerous highway 534, the list of important infrastructure projects that need federal assistance is way too long. And it shouldn’t be.
That’s why we need federal leadership. And that’s why Liberals are pushing for investments in infrastructure so we can create jobs, stimulate the economy and generate growth to benefit our communities.
We can’t allow Stephen Harper to sweep this under the rug. Mayors across Canada are asking for a “guaranteed” share of funds to meet the needs of their communities.
Finance Minister Joe Oliver and his Conservative pals aren’t listening. But we are.
The Liberal Party of Canada is focused on economic growth that will offer a real and fair chance to Canadians.
Let’s work together and make sure Canadians across the country know Harper’s Conservatives are playing politics with your local infrastructure projects.
