Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau celebrates Vaisakhi
April 17, 2015
“This week, I had the opportunity to spend more time learning about the Sikh faith, and reflect on the countless valuable contributions Sikh-Canadians have made to Canada’s national fabric,” said Mr. Trudeau. “Vaiskhi, which marks the creation of the Khalsa Panth, reminds us of the shared ideals of fairness, respect, and equality for all, which underpin both the Sikh faith and Canadian society.”
Mr. Trudeau toured the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives’ “The Spirit of the Sikhs” exhibit, where he learned about the Sikh population in Canada and abroad. He visited the Seva Food Bank’s new location, and was apprised of its expanded programming. Finally, he visited the Halton Gurdwara Sahib, to celebrate Vaisakhi with the community.
“All of the places I was fortunate to visit over the past several days stand as further proof that our country is strong not in spite of our differences, but precisely because of them,” said Mr. Trudeau. “I am proud to have been able to celebrate Vaisakhi with members of Canada’s Sikh community, and that so many members of my team across the country – from Vancouver to Montreal – did so as well.”
