JUST THE FACTS: Liberals End Spring Sitting with Major Accomplishments

As Parliament rises for the summer, Liberals can look back on a successful and action-packed spring sitting. A strong Liberal opposition, headed by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, has held Stephen Harper’s Conservatives to account, along with achieving many other notable accomplishments, including:
- A national leadership campaign was held with a record number of participants.
- In the most open and inclusive leadership race in Canadian history, Liberal members and supporters elected Leader Justin Trudeau.
- Since becoming the Liberal Leader on April 14, 2013, Justin Trudeau has visited eight provinces.
- He has met approximately 10,000 people in their communities.
- Justin Trudeau challenged Mr. Harper 28 times in 10 Question Periods about the economic challenges facing middle class Canadians.
- Liberals sought out and received approximately 3,000 questions from Canadians on their economic concerns that the Prime Minister must answer.
- The Liberal Party launched a positive television ad campaign to introduce Canadians to new Leader Justin Trudeau.
- Liberals raised $1 million in just three weeks, from 14,000 donors, 6,000 of whom were first-time Liberal Party of Canada donors.
- The Liberal “Open Parliament” plan was announced, a comprehensive proposal to make Parliament more open and transparent to Canadians.
- Liberals introduced a motion that makes Parliament more accessible to Canadians by giving all MPs equal opportunity to express the views of the people and communities they represent.
