October 24, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, participated in a panel today on the rise of progressive governance and opportunities to build shared prosperity at the Center for American Progress (CAP).
“I was very pleased to join former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard in a conversation about the rise of progressive governance,” said Mr. Trudeau. “It was energizing to discuss new and innovative thinking about how we can effectively build shared prosperity – ideas that I look forward to sharing with Canadians.”
The Center for American Progress is hosting a tenth anniversary conference in Washington, D.C., featuring high-level discussions of critical policy issues and the bold ideas needed to tackle them. Other important speakers include: U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew, U.S. Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Governors Jerry Brown and Martin O’Malley, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
“Today is an opportunity to enhance collaboration between those who share progressive values in North America and focus on how we can support and grow the middle class,” said Mr. Trudeau. “The Center for American Progress offers an excellent forum to engage in serious debate with leading progressive thinkers on the challenges we face collectively, as well as on proposals that offer opportunity, fairness, and an optimistic economic future for all Canadian families.”
