Liberal Party of Canada statement on International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3, 2014
“On the 22nd annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we recognize and reiterate our commitment to building an accessible and inclusive society for all Canadians.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I reaffirm our commitment to honour and implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We reiterate our call on the government to act, in concert with the provinces and territories and with Canadians with disabilities and their advocates, to build a truly equal society without barriers to participation.”
The Liberal Party of Canada Critic for Employment, Social Development, and Labour, Rodger Cuzner, continued:
“In knowing that millions of our friends and neighbours are too often confronted with discrimination, stigma and accessibility issues, and face disproportionately high levels of poverty and income insecurity, we see that the time for substantive action is long overdue.
“We can – and therefore must – create the society that we envision, which integrates all of its members without discrimination.”
