Liberal Statement on the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice
July 27, 2013
CHARLOTTETOWN— Liberal Veterans Affairs critic Sean Casey made the following statement today on the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice:
“Today Canadians join in solemn reflection on the tremendous sacrifices made by our women and men in uniform during the Korean War.
Sixty years ago the world marked the cessation of hostilities between North and South Korea. On this occasion – and throughout the Year of the Korean War Veteran – we honour those who laid down their lives on the battlefield, and also remember those who have returned home bearing the scars of war.
Over 26,000 Canadians bravely took up arms as part of the United Nations force that sought to bring peace and stability to the Korean Peninsula, and 516 of our fellow citizens made the ultimate sacrifice and never returned home.
Today and every day, we show our eternal gratitude for the service of our Canadian Forces members and their families. Let us join in renewing our commitment to support all serving members and veterans, and never forget their courageous sacrifice.”
