Liberal statement on World Environment Day

OTTAWA – Liberal Environment Critic, John McKay, today issued the following statement on World Environment Day:

“World Environment Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance and the necessity of strong environmental stewardship.

“Canada’s natural environment is a vital part of who we are as a country. After a decade of neglect under this Conservative government, it is time for change.

“Stephen Harper’s failure to protect the environment and fight climate change has damaged our ecosystem, our economy, and our international reputation.

“We need a respectful dialogue between and among governments and Canadians that puts the environment at the centre of our society, and positions us for the 21st century economy and the jobs that come with it. The Liberal Party of Canada is committed to engaging in open and innovative partnerships that fulfill our responsibilities, and take advantage of sustainable economic opportunities.”
