Liberals Call on All MPs to Support Motion to Give Canadians a Greater Voice in the House of Commons
April 25, 2013
OTTAWA– Liberal Democratic Reform critic Stéphane Dion made the following statement today on the Liberal Opposition Day motion to make Parliament more representative of Canadians and their priorities:
“Liberals are pleased to have introduced a proposal that makes Parliament more accessible to Canadians by giving all MPs equal opportunity to express the views of the people and communities they represent.
Our Opposition Day motion – to be voted on this evening – will change the rules in the House of Commons to remove partisan politics from the selection process for Statements by Members, and ensure that the ability of all Canadians to have their voices heard is protected.
It is our hope that all MPs – regardless of political stripe – will recognize the importance of taking this first step and support our motion.”
