Statement by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau on Denis Coderre
May 17, 2013
MONTRÉAL– Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made the following statement today on Liberal MP Denis Coderre’s announcement that he will be running for the Montréal mayoralty:
“Denis Coderre has always represented his community in an exemplary manner, and his commitment to his constituents is unparalleled. Today we see this same dedication in his announcement to continue serving the people of Montréal.
First elected as Member of Parliament for Bourassa in 1997, Denis has served the people of Montréal and Quebec with great passion and conviction. He has demonstrated a wide breadth of knowledge and expertise, serving as Minister of Immigration, Amateur Sport, La Francophonie and President of the Queen’s Privy Council in previous Liberal governments, as well as serving in various critic roles, including Defence, Transport and Heritage while in opposition.
Denis has been a tireless advocate on behalf of Quebecers, and he never walks away from a challenge. His incomparable ability to connect and communicate has rightly endeared him to so many, and we will all fondly remember Denis’ well-known spaghetti dinners and his enthusiasm for social media.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I wish Denis much success in this next chapter of his life and thank him for his continued public service.”
