Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on By-election Results
June 30, 2014
TORONTO – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the by-election results in Fort McMurray—Athabasca, Macleod, Scarborough—Agincourt, and Trinity—Spadina:
“Canadians from Trinity—Spadina and Scarborough—Agincourt have opted to send strong, local voices to represent them in Ottawa. They have sent a clear message that the Liberal Party is the only progressive alternative to Stephen Harper. They have done so because they want representatives and a government that is focused on them, their communities, their families, and their future. Voters have chosen to elect representatives who share a vision that brings Canadians together.
“The Liberal Party of Canada has been working hard to build a strong plan and a strong team to deliver change to Canadians. The results of these by-elections have proven that our message is reaching and engaging Canadians. Liberals’ results and significant gains make clear that Albertans in particular will not be taken for granted. Voters have shown us that they believe that every Canadian deserves a real and fair chance at success.
“I would like to congratulate all our Liberal candidates and their teams for their truly commendable campaigns. I am also immensely proud to welcome Adam Vaughan and Arnold Chan to the Liberal Caucus in Parliament. They will be an essential part of our team, and I am confident that they will serve their communities with the utmost dedication.”
