Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on National Holodomor Awareness Week

TORONTO– The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, made the following statement today on National Holodomor Awareness Week:

“This week Canadians will remember a dark and painful chapter in human history. This year marks the 80^th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine, where millions were systematically starved in a calculated effort to destroy and suppress a nation.

“As governments around the world have begun acknowledging this tragedy as genocide, those who lived through the Holodomor, as well as their descendants, continue their search for peace and healing.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I encourage all Canadians to join in solemn reflection on this horrible atrocity and in commitment to ensuring such an event never happens again.”
