Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader, Justin Trudeau, on Philippine Independence Day

MONCTON, N.B. — The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement in recognition of Philippine Independence Day:

“Today, Canadians join with Filipinos across this country and around the world in celebrating this 116^th anniversary of Philippine independence.

“The values of the Filipino community are ones that all Canadians share, and in recent years, I have had the privilege of attending many events with Canada’s vibrant Filipino community. I have been continually reminded of how fortunate we are to live in a country that embraces our diversity and multiculturalism.

“Today, I am also reminded of the power of community, as witnessed when Canadians across the country came together last year to offer support for the Philippines and the Filipino community in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. It is clear that we are united in common purpose and compassion for one another.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I offer my warmest wishes to all those celebrating Philippine Independence Day.
