Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Ramadan
June 27, 2014
OTTAWA – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement to mark the beginning of Ramadan:
“Today marks the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims in Canada and around the world will join together in fasting, prayers, charity, and spiritual reflection.
“During this month distinguished by empathy and discipline, Canadians are reminded of how fortunate we are to live in a country that not only embraces, but celebrates diversity. I look forward to joining with the Muslim community in the weeks to come in observance of this holy month.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I would like to extend my best wishes to all those observing Ramadan this month. While the summer days may be long, I trust that this time will offer an opportunity for Muslims around the world to reconnect with their faith, family, and friends.”
