Today’s parents won’t get child care from Mulcair

NIAGARA FALLS, ON – This morning in Niagara Falls, Thomas Mulcair made it crystal clear that parents today won’t see new child care spaces under the NDP.
Mulcair’s back-of-the-napkin proposal relies on billions of dollars from the provinces to get it done, but when pressed on how he’ll pay for it all, Mulcair said some provinces will be exempt:
“Ontario is one of those few provinces that actually has two full years of kindergarten, so of course that has to be factored in. Of course that will be taken into account.”

“Thomas Mulcair really hasn’t thought this through. His child care proposal is a mirage. It’s full of holes and he can’t pay for it,” said Liberal candidate for York—Simcoe, Shaun Tanaka. “He’s sending a $3.3 billion bill to provinces and territories, asking them to do all the heavy lifting, but hasn’t even spoken to the Premiers about it.”
“Now, Thomas Mulcair says the provinces will be recognized for existing child care funding. It blows a huge hole in his already flimsy proposal,” said Ms. Tanaka. “It shows Thomas Mulcair will say whatever is convenient.”
“Besides the mess he’s heading into with the provinces, Thomas Mulcair won’t have any federal funds for child care because he adopted Harper’s ideological timeline to eliminate the deficit in just six months.”
“No parent with children today will see new child care spaces from Thomas Mulcair,” concluded Ms. Tanaka.
