MONTREAL – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the death of Kenneth Taylor, O.C., former Canadian Ambassador to Iran:
“I was saddened to learn today that Ken Taylor has passed away. A true Canadian hero, he will be remembered by our country and around the world for his integral role and leadership in sheltering six Americans so they could seek refuge and safely flee Iran in 1980.
“Mr. Taylor was guided by the value of public service throughout his entire life, and his many years in education, business, and the foreign service were marked by courage and compassion.
“He stood for the best of what it means to be Canadian, and I offer my heartfelt condolences to his entire family on this difficult day.”
