Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Nowruz

TORONTO – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today on Nowruz:

“Today marks a new beginning for those celebrating Nowruz, the first day of spring and the beginning of a new year in the Persian calendar.

“This time of rebirth and renewal offers us all an opportunity to recognize the tremendous contributions and strong heritage of Canada’s Persian community, as well as the many other communities observing this day. I look forward to attending Nowruz celebrations in Toronto this week.

“As families and friends across the country gather to mark the beginning of a new year, our thoughts go out to those in parts of the world where individuals are denied the rights and freedoms that we enjoy here in Canada.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I extend my best wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity in the new year for those celebrating Nowruz today.”
