Andrew Scheer campaigns with B.C. candidate who supports price on pollution

Vancouver, B.C. – Andrew Scheer is in B.C. today, boycotting the climate marches, neglecting our environment, and pretending climate change isn’t real. But he’s campaigning alongside his own Conservative candidate who promoted the need for a price on pollution.
Scheer will campaign with Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge Conservative candidate Marc Dalton, who said in 2017 as a member of the BC Legislature: “Our government made the decision to implement a tax on carbon… Our carbon tax appears to be working. Independent studies have found that between 2008 and 2012, fuel use in B.C. dropped by 16 percent per capita. In 2015, a review of seven independent studies suggested that B.C.’s carbon tax has reduced emissions in the province by up to 15 percent… We view this tax as a tool to change behaviour and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” (Marc Dalton, BC Legislature, February 27, 2017)
“Andrew Scheer wants to scrap the national climate plan as his first act in office, make pollution free again, and he’s hiding from today’s climate marches,” said Liberal candidate for North Vancouver, Jonathan Wilkinson. “British Columbians know climate change is real and expect their leaders to do more to fight it. Andrew Scheer’s own candidate recognises the need for a price on pollution – why can’t he? Whether it’s wild fires or floods, the climate crisis is real and we can’t wait for Andrew Scheer to come to terms with reality.”
“Unlike Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives, and Stephen Harper before him, Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have been working to ensure our kids and our grandkids inherit cleaner air, a healthier environment, and a more prosperous future,” said Wilkinson. “A re-elected Liberal government will make Canada the most attractive place to start and grow a business that produces zero emissions technology. British Columbians rightly expect their government to protect the planet for future generations, and that’s what our plan does.”
