Fact Check: Trudeau will deliver tax fairness for families, workers, and seniors
October 12, 2015
OTTAWA – Harper’s plan has failed. While middle class Canadians struggle to make ends meet, Harper gives billions in benefits to the wealthiest few and will do nothing to help Canadian families get ahead.
Despite Stephen Harper’s false claims, the Liberal plan gives nine out of ten families more in monthly child benefit payments than under the Conservative system.
Further, the Liberal plan saves middle class families up to $1,350 per year by lowering the middle class tax bracket.
And only Justin Trudeau will raise taxes on the wealthiest one percent – Mulcair and Harper will not.
Contrary to Harper’s falsehoods, Justin Trudeau will keep – not cut – pension income splitting for seniors. Conversely, the Harper plan disproportionately helps the wealthiest few.
The Liberal plan restores fairness to seniors by lowering to 65 the eligibility age for Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement, and boosting by ten percent the Guaranteed Income Supplement for single low-income seniors.
