MONTREAL – Stephen Harper’s cabinet minister, Bal Gosal, made the following statement on assisting Syrian refugees:
“In an interview with the Star, Conservative candidate Bal Gosal (Brampton-Centre), said supporters in his riding ‘don’t want them. The majority of people don’t want them [Syrian refugees].’” (Toronto Star, September 10, 2015)
“Canadians have opened their hearts and opened their arms, wanting Canada to help refugees in desperate need. Stephen Harper must put this type of partisanship aside and heed the call to do more,” said Liberal candidate for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Westmount, Marc Garneau. “Other world leaders are stepping up to the plate to help those in need. Canada can and must do the same. This is about showing leadership and doing what is right as Canadians.”
