Harper misleads Ontario families
October 12, 2015
ST. CATHARINES – This morning on St. Catharines’ radio, Stephen Harper tried to mislead local families in an effort to distract from his decade of failure on the economy.
Harper said: “Well, first of all, we’re certainly not in a recession, in fact we haven’t been in a recession all year.” (CKTB Radio, October 12, 2015)
Unfortunately for Stephen Harper, the undeniable truth is Canada’s economy shrank in the second quarter of 2015, and officially entered recession. (BNN, September 1, 2015)
“Sorry Mr. Harper, but you can’t come on the radio and try to mislead Ontario families,” said Liberal candidate for St. Catharines, Chris Bittle. “The fact is that on Stephen Harper’s watch, Canada entered recession earlier this year and unemployment is rising.”
Bittle noted that Ontario lost 34,000 jobs last month on Harper’s watch. (source: Statistics Canada, Labour Force Survey, September 2015)
“Ontario families won’t be fooled by desperate, last-minute Conservative tactics. This kind of desperation is beneath a Prime Minister,” said Mr. Bittle. “It’s another illustration that after ten years in power, it’s time for the Harper Conservatives to go.”
