Liberal Party of Canada statement on World AIDS Day
December 1, 2014
“On World AIDS Day, we remember those lost to HIV and AIDS, and stand in solidarity with those who continue to fight against this deadly pandemic.
“On this day, we renew our dedication to forward thinking and aggressive action in combatting both the disease itself and the unfortunate stigma that surrounds it. Our hope is bolstered by advances in modern medicine and innovation where Canadian researchers continue to make vital contributions. Specifically, the new highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is the work of Canadian researchers and has been formally accepted globally as Treatment as Prevention (TasP). But for all of our progress, we know that our work does not end until HIV and AIDS are eradicated.
“Today, we recommit to achieving a future that is free of HIV and AIDS. We thank Canadian researchers and doctors, today and every day, for their leadership in the greater international fight for a cure.
“On World AIDS Day, let’s redouble our resolve to provide our children and grandchildren with a world in which HIV and AIDS no longer poses a threat. Our work is not yet finished, but we remain confident and hopeful for what the future of medical research will bring.”
